I have been working professionally for almost 16 years. In fact It will be exactly 16 years to the day on july 17th,2009. I never thought I would still be at it after all these years and almost all of the Piercers I knew who began a year or two before me have retired and moved on to other ventures;, I’m still at it! ……WHY?, because I genuinely love what I do and having the opportunity day in and out to be creative and work with the skin is a blast.
I have and continue to study physiology and anatomy because of a genuine interest as well as I believe that if I am entrusted to work on people, I had better know what the hell I’m doing. It only makes sense as a professional that I would seek out as much knowledge as possible in all areas that apply to my work and the one area that is paramount to being truly professional is to have all the proper training in Sterilization and cross-contamination awareness and protocols, Bloodborne Pathogens and infection control. Without the correct training and and applications of these vital techniques I would be possibly handing people a death sentence along with their body art.
I have successfully completed many Infection control and sterilization courses and below are the certificates as well as a look into the sterilization room where I work at Tatooatouage. I believe it is my responsibility to have the appropriate training and my co-workers and clients deserve that in a professional.
I would like to clarify something extremely IMPORTANT to those who may question the validity of my training. For one, these certificates CLEARLY STATE THAT I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED TRAINING IN STERILIZATION AND INFECTION CONTROL AWARENESS AND PROCEDURES REGARDING CROSS-CONTAMINATION AND BLOOD-BORNE PATHOGENS!
I have Never taken a course on how to pierce nor have I ever claimed that I was certified or trained to pierce. The above certificates are the ones that hang on my wall in the piercing room where I work and have nothing to do with piercing training. The Winnipeg certifcate is required by all piercers and tattooist’s who work in a studio in the Province of Manitoba. A by-law that was instated January 1st, 2007.
I often travel as a guest piercer and it was mandatory for me to be registered with the Winnipeg health board for legal reasons.
I am a self taught piercer who learned by my own hand of willingness to seek out all relevent knowledge applicable to my craft, by working with some of the best piercers in canada and by plain old common sense.
My references can be obtained by contacting any of the above certifcate issuers.
I take my work and my training very seriously and just want to avoid the ignorance of judgement by those who have never taken the responsibility to be professional and recieve the neccessary training that is paramount to our craft.
